Clarification

Just as a note of clarification, I might have said in the past something about the first days of band camp going from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. On Thursday August 2nd, the first day of camp we will be going from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. - - On Friday August 3rd we will be practicing from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. - - On Saturday August 4th we will be practicing from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. These are the times according to the band camp schedule that was passed out in May. You need to come ready to all of these rehearsals and know your music. In the past we have had days of drumline only camp to stay ahead of the rest of the band, this year we only have part of one day extra. Finally, remember showing up on time means showing up about 10 minutes early.

Also, make sure everyone in the drumline knows this, send them messages on facebook or give them a call. Andrew you might want to call everybody and "remind" them one more time of the correct times.

Another reminder that I will be doing the drum maintenance in the late afternoon/evening on the 31st and most of the day on August 1st. Please return any drums or equipment you have on the 31st.

Come

Notice the below posted dates for full battery practices. One of which was scheduled for Monday. Since the only person that attended this sectional besides Paul, Mr. Connel, and myself was Sam drumline camp will be starting one day earlier than originally posted on the schedule. It is now set to start on August 1. The other full battery practices are sill going to happen so please make it to these so we don't have to add more days to drumline camp. Please come on Thursday and Friday and if you cannot make it I will expect a call letting me know that you cannot make it. Missing and not letting me know may result on your termination from this year's line.

Full Battery Rehearsals Again

Again,

The full battery rehearsals are posted below and start tomorrow. Please plan on coming to all three.

Bass Drummers

Go to the rehearsals! It sucks to have two or three bass drums trying to go through a split part ,so you are effecting the whole bass line if you aren't there. I apologize that I'm not around this summer. If any of you don't know where I am, I work at a summer camp as a counselor getting paid far below minimum wage. Also, highlight your parts before you go to practice.

Full Battery Rehearsals Reminder

Just a reminder that we will be having Full Battery Rehearsals on:

Mon. July 16
Thu. July 19
and
Fri. July 20 (if necessary - - if enough people show up for the first two rehearsals AND we have made some progress we won't have the rehearsal on Friday)

All rehearsals will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. You are expected to show up to these rehearsals, some sections have meet during the summer, but we need to get together as a full ensemble. These aren't something to do if you have nothing else going on, please - for the good of the section, do what you can to attend these rehearsals.

I suggest the section leaders inform the rest of the section (by phone) to remind them of these rehearsals.

Please be very comfortable with the warm-ups and have looked over the Opener a few times. We will mostly be looking at the Opener, but I would expect that a copy of the Closer might be handed out by the end of the week.

All of the tenors and snares should already have the music for the opener, if you don't you have a copy contact your section leader. Bass Drums if you want a copy of the opener you can pick that up at my house, 112 Delaware Ave. SW. If you don't want to come by and pick up a copy they will be handed out at the first full drumline sectional. (see below)

DCI Show and Music

If any of you are interested, there are a few open spots with the group going to the DCI show in Sioux Falls on Tuesday. We will be going up in a couple suburbans in the afternoon to watch a couple of the corps practice before the show in the evening. For those of you that have never seen a DCI show or really good drumline up close this will be an excellent learning opportunity. If you are are interested just leave a comment here or email me at paul-connell@uiowa.edu.

Also, the opener is being finalized and we are working on how to get that music to you in the next couple days.

Music Update

Will and I have started working on the Opener (Sunset) for the 2007 Field Show and you can expect to receive some version of that in the next couple weeks, possibly when I return home next week (see below). The Opener is very exciting and VERY fast paced with most of the movement moving at either 168 or 180 bpm. The Opener is also pretty long at about 130 measures, you can expect not to have too much playing in the 2nd Mvt., but from what I have heard from Pete, the Closer (Sunrise) will be lengthy at over 4 minutes which should mean 200+ measures, just a little heads up that when you get the Opener you will want to know it pretty well before you get the Closer later this summer.

Also to any Bass Drummers I have made some minor changes to the 2nd to last section of My Super Sweet Sixteen, so just keep that in mind when looking at that. I will get those changes to you at a later date.

Finally I should have some more information soon for any of you interested in joining us (staff and section leaders) in Sioux Falls on Tue. June 19 for DCI Show featuring the Phantom Regiment who had the top drumline in 2006.
